David LaFore Lock

David LaFore Lock, 59, of Alton, passed away suddenly on Monday, July 16, 2012, while visiting his sister, Barbara Lock Hickman of Chicago.

Born August 12, 1952, in Springfield, Ill., David and Barbara moved to Alton as toddlers and were raised in a most loving and caring home with parents, Catherine Armstead Hickman and her husband John Hubert Hickman.

David attended Alton public schools, graduated from Alton High School in 1970, and attended Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, Ill., as a math major.

David’s career exemplified over 30 years of exceptional, professional experience in the trucking industry, building expertise in long-distance tanker driving for the delivery of hazardous/nonhazardous liquids and bulk. His recent employer was Andrews Logistics, a Texas-based company with offices in Granite City. His ongoing precise, accurate and detailed attention proved him a leader in his profession. David maintained current knowledge of federal/state transportation laws and regulations associated with his career.

Historical, war documentaries and Greek mythology were other categories of study enjoyed by David.

David was an accomplished golfer and a professional bowler, spanning decades with numerous trophies, “300” rings and watches to prove it. David cherished his golf and bowling buddies as much as he loved each sport. If you didn’t find him at the bowling lanes or on the golf course, you might head to one of his favorite fishing spots, in spite of the fact that fish was not one of his favorite foods.

David will be missed by so many people, and most by his beloved and devoted sister, Barbara, with whom he shared an extremely close bond.

His parents preceded him in death.

Friends of David are invited to attend a memorial service to celebrate David’s life from 2-4 p.m. on Saturday, July 21, at Bowl Haven Lanes.

Condolences may be mailed to his sister, Barbara Hickman, PO Box 268772, Chicago, Illinois 60626.
