James Lewis obituary

James "Jim" W. Lewis, 70, of South Roxana, passed away on Thursday, September 1, 2022, at Alton Memorial Hospital.
He was born on December 25, 1951, in Alton, IL, the son of the late William D. Lewis and the late Mary E. (Springgate) and stepfather, Charley Daughhetee, who lives in Godfrey. Jim married Elsa A. (Smith) Graham in Wood River, on December 31, 1984. She survives.
Jim worked at Jefferson-Smurfit as a pipefitter until retirement in 1999. He then went to American Steel as a pipefitter, until his most recent job, as a Wal-Mart greeter. Jim was a member of FBI Car Club. He enjoyed traveling, going to car shows, working on his classic street rods, and especially spending time with his grandchildren.
Along with his wife, Elsa and stepfather, Charley, Jim is survived by his children, Jennifer (Dwayne) Copeland of Godfrey, Brooke Garner of Wood River, William "Bill" (Jennifer) Lewis of Wood River, Allen Graham of St. Louis, MO, and Rebecca (Robert) Alford of Alton; a brother, John (Cindy) Lewis of Godfrey; sister-in-law, Sarah (Daniel) Robien of East Alton; ten grandchildren, Madeline, Annabelle, Jennifer, Olivia, Alexander, Emily, Elsah, Madison, Chandler, and Blake; and numerous nieces and nephews, who loved their Uncle Jim a lot.
Jim was preceded in death by his mother and father; a brother and sister-in-law David and Val Lewis; and another sister-in-law, Donna M. Watson.
Per his wishes, cremation rites will be accorded. A memorial service visitation will be held on Saturday, September 10, 2022, from 1 to 4 pm, at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto.
Memorials can be made in his name to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
