I lived from 1952 to 1960 on Langdon Street dirctely across the street from Linda and her big brother Mike. I remember sitting on our front steps playing hopscoth on the sidewalk. Linda and I both attended Lincoln Elementary until my family moved to Godfrey in 1960. Unfortuneatly we never ran in the same circles however said "Hi" to each other throughout High School. As children we played with a cast of characters on Langdon and the neighborhood.  A lot of those people continue to be in my life today, some are not. Linda was a sweet and beautiful girl and I'm sure a wonderful woman as an adult. I'll think of her as I do several of our classmates who have passed on.

Linda and I met at Lincoln School, where I attended until the end of the second grade. Her brother Mike and my brother were friends and boy scouts under Mr. Schreiber’s leadership. Linda and I played all around our neighborhoods in middletown Alton, including Blair Pasture behind her house. We rode bikes in grade school and then in high school she and I walked to Western Military Academy, now Mississippi Valley Christian School, on Seminary and rode their horses on Saturday mornings when our schedules and finances permitted.

We were in Indian Princesses together and went to camp one summer with our dads. I believe the setting was Marquette Park cabins. Marty Grady was also part of that summer trip. I was a Camp Fire Girl for a couple years and someone was also in the program with me. It could have been Linda.

While still in grade school Linda saved her money and bought an upright piano and her parents placed it in the basement where she learned to play.

We also played at my house and I remember after one of our classmates, Benji Lentz, was hit by a car and went home to be with Jesus, Linda initiated the idea of our making mud cakes for the angels to take to him. We were either in kindergarten or first grade.

We shopped at Snyder’s and other downtown stores.

In high school we attended ARC dances at Rock Springs Park, did some double dating, and rode together to Alton High. I marveled at her skill in driving a car with a stick shift transmission on the hills of Alton, especially in the winter, and Linda lived on one of the most intense hills: Langdon Street!

Linda had a sweet spirit, was level-headed, and always seemed to know what she wanted to do and how to spend her life.  I'm glad we were friends.
