The obituary in the Telegraph says:

"Chester Dale Vandiver, 26, of 420 Jefferson, Alton, was pronounced dead at 10:30 p.m. Saturday [1979] at Carlinville Area Hospital.

"Born in East St. Louis, he was a son of Chester A. and Dolly (Wilson) Vandiver of Alton, and was a truck driver for J & S Truck Lines.

"The Vietnam veteran is survived by, in addition to his parents, a grandfather, Elmer Wilson of DeSota, Mo.; and two brothers, Mike of Alton and Jerry of St. Louis.

"Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. today at Burke Funeral Home where services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday with the Rev. Robert Bowling officiating.

"Burial will be in Alton City Cemetery and Cherry Street Baptist Church has been named as a memorial.

"A coroner's inquest is pending."

An earlier article in the Telegraph, on Mon. Apr. 26, 1971, says:

"Airman Chester D. Vandiver, son of Mr. and Mrs. Chester A. Vandiver, Alton, has graduated from aircraft mechanics courses at Shepard AFB, Tex."
