"Steven Douglas Rain, 55, entrepreneur, community advocate and former Alton mayoral candidate, lost his nearly 10-month battle with brain cancer on Friday, Nov. 23, 2007, at Alton Memorial Hospital.
"He was born Dec. 21, 1951, in St. Louis to Shirley (Bierbaum) and Christopher John Rain.
"Surviving are his mother of Atlanta, Ga; a daughter, Bethany, of Wood River; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Brian of Roxana and Nathan and Jennifer of Wood River; a grandson and step-grandson, Aidan and Zach of Wood River; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Jo Ann Rain and husband, Rick Williams, and Jennie Rain, and a niece and nephew, Zoey and Jake, all of Atlanta; and a stepbrother, Glen Wayne Bierbaum of Fosterburg.
"He was preceded in death by his father; two sisters, Christie and Susan; two brothers, John and Kevin; two half brothers, Don and David; and two stepbrothers, David and Don Bierbaum.
"In celebration of his life, a visitation will be from 5 until time of a memorial service at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Paynic Home for Funerals in Rosewood Heights.
"Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society."
