"Richard A. "Uncle Joe" Lewis, 41, formerly of Whiting, Ind., died at 3:40 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 3, 1993, at Alton Memorial Hospital.
"Born Aug. 25, 1952, in Wood River, he was the son of Eugene and Bette (Allsman) Lewis of Alton.
"He was a crane operator for the LTV Steel Co. in East Chicago, Ind.
"Surviving are a brother and sister-in-law, Ronald E. and Patti Lewis of Alton; a nephew and his wife, Mike and Natalie Lewis of Roxana; and a great-niece, Brittani Lewis of Roxana.
"Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Gent Funeral Home in Alton, where services will be at 11 a.m. Friday. The Rev. Paul Nicholas will officiate.
"Burial will be in Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto.
"Memorials may be made to Shepard's Home of Union Grove, Wis., or a charity of one's choice."
