Richard "Rick" Kauffold died peacefully in St. Louis County on Thursday, June 29, 2023 at the age of 71.
Rick is survived by his siblings; Patricia (Robin) Meredith of Washington, IL, Barbara Shannon of Washington, IL, George Kauffold of Hayworth, IL, Nancy Kauffold of Springfield, IL, and children; Heather (Casey) Basinger of IA, Craig (April) Scellin of Belleville, IL, Jason Kauffold of FL and Jason Scellin of Fieldon, IL.
Rick is preceded in death by his wife, Cindy Kauffold, siblings; Gary Kauffold, James Kauffold, Larry Kauffold, Michael Kauffold and Mary Kauffold, children; Gary Kauffold.
Rick was born on April 28th, 1952 to Elmer and Evelyn (Hartsfield) Kauffold. He joined the Glen Carbon police department in 1978 and retired in 1998. During his policing career, he met his sweetheart, Cindy Hartson. They married in 1983 and raised four sons together. They retired to Ormond Beach, FL and lived until returning home to IL in 2016.
Rick was a generous man who put family first. He loved spending time with his children, niece, Lindsey Kauffold and dear friends, Bill and Linda Chartrand. Above all else, he loved his wife Cindy. Their devotion to each other will forever be their defining trait and remain an inspiration to us all.
Cynthia "Cindy" Kauffold died peacefully in her home on Tuesday, August 2, 2022 at the age of 65.
She was born March 7, 1957 to Lyle and Maxine (Short) Hartson.
A memorial service will be held for both Richard and Cindy on Saturday, July 15, 2023 at 11:00am with a visitation will be held from 10:00am until time of service. A graveside service will follow with Military Honors. Memorial contributions can be made to the family to decide at a later date.
