Robert R. Howard, 65, of Alton, died at 2:25 p.m. Tuesday, November 14, 2017 at his home. Bob was born March 18, 1952 in Alton to Kenneth “Bud” and Sybil (Quinn) Howard. He was a member of the former Bethany Baptist Church in Godfrey. Bob served in the armed forces at Camp David, MD and rode in motorcades with Presidents Ford and Bush. After leaving the military he worked in security for St. Joseph’s Hospital, Barns Security, Chemetco and Securitas Security until being disabled by diabetes. Bob was a big cut up and loved to tease anyone and everyone around him. Survivors include his son, Steven Howard of Wood River, daughter, Caitlin (Zack) Greenwood, step daughters, Melissa Trout of Mt. Vernon, IL and Victoria King of Florida. One granddaughter, Kaylin Masters, one step grandson, Dakota, three sisters and brothers-in-law, Carole (Don) Fredrick of Alton, Toni (Tom) Vanskike of Spokane, WA, Mary (Rod) Heilman of Claremont, FL, three special aunts, Mrs. Wilda Cooper of Taylorville, IL, Mrs. Geneva Davis of St. Louis, MO, and Mrs. Jean (Ross) Carroll of Salem, OR, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Bob was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents, W. Rae and Jenny Howard and John and Berneice Quinn, two nephews, Kenneth W. Fredrick and Shawn Heilman and wife Kerry and baby girl Taylor. A memorial visitation will be from 2:00-4:00 p.m. Saturday, November 25, 2017 at the VFW in Cottage Hills. Gent Funeral Home in Alton is in charge of arrangements.
