PEORIA - The Rev. Robert E. "Rob" Hatfield, age 60, Pastor of First Church of Lombard, formerly of Alton, Ill., and a family member of Peoria area residents, died Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2013, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove, Ill.
Visitation will be held Friday, Feb. 8, from 2 to 9 p.m. at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard. Funeral services will be held Saturday, Feb. 9, with the Rev. Hatfield lying in state from 9:30 a.m. until time of funeral service at 11 a.m. at the First Church of Lombard, 220 S. Main St., Lombard. Interment will be private.
The Rev. Hatfield is survived by his wife, Peggy, nee Laitas; his daughter, Katelyn of Lombard; his son, Michael (Teri) of Montgomery, Ill.; his cherished granddaughter, Alexa Grace; his father, Robert E. Sr.; two sisters, Gwen (Tom) Riney of Alton and Susie (Dave) Bennett of Columbia, Mo.; and many nieces, nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.
The Rev. Hatfield was preceded in death by his mother, Darlene, nee Knight.
The Rev. Hatfield was the pastor of First Church of Lombard for 24 years. He had served on the Board of Directors for Good Samaritan Hospital, Teen Parent Connection, Community Renewal Society of Chicago and Elmhurst College.
The Rev. Hatfield was a graduate of Eden Seminary in Webster Grove, Mo. He had tried out for the St. Louis Cardinals baseball farm team and made the team before going to seminary.
Rob loved his family, friends and the St. Louis Cardinals.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to the First Church of Lombard, 220 S. Main St., Lombard, IL 60148 would be appreciated.
