U.S. VeteranMr. Larry Wayne Day, 66, departed this life on December 17, 2017, at Memorial Medical Center, in Springfield, IL at 5:50 am surrounded by family. Larry was born on June 20, 1951, in Alton, IL the son of the late Louis Arthur Day, Jr. and the late Grace Elizabeth (Shaw) Day. 

Larry grew up in Alton, IL and received his education from Alton Public School District, before he was drafted into the Vietnam War, by the U.S. Navy. Larry was an avid motorcycle rider, and was a member of several different motorcycle clubs, including: The One-Eye Jacks, Goldwing Riders, Night Crawlers, and Smooth Riders of Springfield, Illinois. He loved playing pool and darts, he enjoyed hunting and fishing, and he loved listening to jazz and the blues. He also loved watching cowboy movies.

Larry was employed by Olin Brass and Glenn’s Auto Repair in Alton, IL before he moved to Springfield, IL. In Springfield, he became a bus driver and drove for Mayflower and Harm Bus Companies, before driving and retiring from the Springfield Urban League. Larry met the love of his life, Sheila, and they were united in holy matrimony on April 5, 1991.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents Louis Arthur Day, Jr. and Grace Elizabeth (Shaw) Day; five sisters Vera Bowens, Marion Nicholas, Josephine White, Jan Rose Wilson and Wanda Trotter; five brothers Walter Day, Louis “Sonny” Day, George “Pap” Day, Edward Finley and Louis “Kojak” Finley, Jr.

Larry leaves to cherish fond memories: his devoted wife of twenty-six years, Sheila of Springfield, IL; two sons Louis D. Day and Jarrett (Briana) Pierson both of Springfield, IL; two daughters Leslie Banks of Alton, IL and Chandra (Andre) Pierson-Rye of Springfield, IL; one sister Gladys Parks of Detroit, MI; two sister-in-law’s, Stormey Shepherd of Chicago, IL and Tyan Smith of E. St. Louis, IL; and three brother-in-law’s, Kenneth Smith of Springfield, IL, David Alford of Chatham, IL and Myron Alford of Germany. He also has fourteen grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
