Lacey Brumfield Jr

Lacey Broomfield Jr., 61, departed this life at 2:20 p.m. on Sunday, June 17, 2012, at his home.

He was born on Nov. 10, 1950, in Tchula, Miss. He was the son of Lacey Broomfield Sr. and Rosie Broomfield Rogers (both deceased).

He was a graduate of Alton Senior School and was employed with Pere Marquette Boys Home in Grafton. He was married to the former Mary Riddlespriger, and she survives.

Lacey was a member of St. John Baptist and would share the gospel with many. He was a loving father and hard worker and was also an avid hunter and enjoyed cooking.

He is survived by two sons, Lacey Broomfield III of Alton and George Washington Mack Jr. of Belleville; two daughters, Tabetha Broomfield of Jacksonville, Fla., and LaWanda (Nice) Maduekwe of East St. Louis; a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren; three brothers, Clarence and Jeffrey Broomfield and John Rogers, all of Alton; two sisters, Dorothy (Glenn) Alexander of Alton and Verdean Robinson of Houston; special friends, A.J. Floyd and Rick Morgan, both of Alton; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Dwight Riddlespriger; his brother, Eugene Newman; his sister, Gloria Brumfield; his grandson, Stephen Matlock Jr.; and his aunt, Lillian Mitchell.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until time of service at 11 Friday, June 22, at Monroe Memorial Church with Bishop Samuel E. White officiating. Burial will be at Upper Alton Cemetery.

Cathy M. Williams & Sons Funeral Home in Alton is in charge of arrangements.
