Irene F. Armstrong, 58, passed away at 10:38 a.m. Friday, March 25, 2011, at Missouri Baptist Hospital in St. Louis. She was born on April 12, 1952, in Alton, the daughter of Carl E. and Helen I. (Korte) Armstrong.

Irene was a lab technician at Amoco for over 18 years, retiring in 1988. She was a member of the United Presbyterian Church in Wood River, where she enjoyed working with the youths.

She is survived by her mother of Bethalto; a brother and sister-in-law, John and Kay Armstrong of Bethalto; three nieces and nephews and their spouses, Tom and Janice Coffman of Belleville, Beth and Michael Butler of St. Charles, Mo., and Brian and Jaime Armstrong of Edwardsville; and her great-nieces and nephews, Lauryn, Victoria, Noah, John Thomas and Ethan. She was preceded in death by her father.

Visitation will be from 5 until funeral services at 7 p.m. Monday, March 28, at Elias Kallal & Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto with the Rev. Pam Laing officiating.

Inurnment will be at a later date.

Memorials may be given to United Presbyterian Church of Wood River.

So sad to hear about Irene's passing!  I hadn't really seen her since high school but have fond memories of her from the good 'ol days and recently reconnected with her through FaceBook!  Got to go to the funeral home and meet her mother and brother and they were very gracious!  Rest in peace Irene.
